Maple Leafs Reveal Plans for 100th Birthday Bash

The party has started.

On Thursday, the Maple Leafs raised the curtain on 18 months of activities themed around the franchise’s centennial and that of the NHL’s.

“There will be many surprises throughout the season,” added club president Brendan Shanahan.

The highlights:

* An exhibition game tour that will take the Leafs across the province and the country; to St. Catharines, Hamilton, Halifax (part of training camp in the Maritime city) and a stop in Saskatoon, Sask.

* New sweaters and a larger classic logo.

* An October ceremony to unveil the statues of three new members of Legends Row outside the Air Canada Centre: Dave Keon, Turk Broda and Tim Horton.

* The 13 Stanley Cup banners and 18 retired/honoured player banners will be lowered at the ACC and replaced with those bearing the new logo. In the case of the player number banners, they’ll be sent to the home towns of each man.
